Education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one

ABOUT US

What began as a building with 16 primary school classrooms and a handful of students in Methi village, near Dhule district, is today, a well-established high school that educates over 500 local students each year. Founded by Shri Gajanan Jagannath Takane on August 15, 1973, the Rugna Seva Mandal, a registered public charitable trust, has not only educated over 5,000 students since its inception, but also conducted various initiatives that support the over-all development of a number of villages in the vicinity of Methi Village, Dhule district, Maharashtra located 400kms from Mumbai, that was once severely famine struck. Today, 40 years later, the village not only has an improved infrastructure, but also basic facilities.

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS

One of the first initiatives undertaken by the Rugna Seva Mandal Trust was to rebuild the fallen Ganesh Temple in 1973, along with constructing 16 primary school classrooms.

Beginning in the year 1983, the school provides quality education (SSC board) to children from not only Methi, but neighbouring villages as well. In the year 1993, a beautiful school building spreads over 3 acres of land was constructed for the students. The campus currently houses a garden with over 700 trees, 300 of which are Neem trees, a playground for the children. The school endeavours to educate both, girls and boys of the village. Currently, over 500 students study at the school, of which 300 are girls. To maintain the quality of education imparted, the school has always believed in employing trained and qualified teachers who personally attend to the needs of their students. The administrative staff, who come with extensive experience in their respective fields to focus on the welfare of the students on a daily basis.

The famine struck Dhule district was also witness to a number of villagers falling prey to Tuberculosis (TB). The trust, as part of its on going fight to eradicate TB, conducted free medical check-ups under Dr Hemant Deshmukh from 1979-1990 and in the process, cured over 30,000 patients with free medicines provided by the trust.

The trust, as part of its effort to provide support to the financially weak sector of the society sponsored six open heart surgeries to villagers. A brain tumor operation was also performed on a visually impaired girl, who today, not only leads a normal life, but is also well settled with her family.

A number of nine-yard sarees were provided to women of the village regularly.

As part of their aim to maintain good health among villagers, the trust has conducted a number of medical camps, with assistance from 'Dilasa Medical Trust' and 'Sai Samarth Vidyan Probodhini' under the aegis of 'Shree Aniruddha Upasana Trust'. Conducted in the year 2000, the medical camp, not only treated over 2,000 patients, but also provided free medication and nutritious food to students and villagers who needed the same. The 'Shree Aniruddha Upasana Trust', upon examination, found a number of students with low haemoglobin count. The trust thus provided free sprouts (pulses) to students for over six years to help maintain their health.

The trust also constructed a multi-purpose hall that was used for cultural and social activities that benefit villagers in and around the district.

The school provides students with a wholesome nutritious lunch every day. What's most unique is that the same is cooked on campus, and is served in clean steel plates. Apart from this, the trust also facilitated the staff and students with direct access to clean drinking water on campus. Besides these, the classrooms are also equipped with ceiling fans.

Every year, the school provides all the students with quality uniforms, text books, note books and stationery free of cost. To support this initiative, the Oswal Mitra Mandal, Mumbai provides 2,000 free notebooks each year.

The high school is also equipped with a fully functional library that students benefit from.

As an incentive to attract students to study hard, the trust rewards academically excellent students with cash prizes of up to Rs 25,000 each year. This, not only encourages them to study further, but also helps them aid their higher education.

Hygienic sanitary facilities are provided to not only teachers and staff, but also students of the school, with separate rooms for both, girls and boys. The trust makes sure that cleanliness is maintained on a daily basis.

Recently, the trust also equipped the school with a fully-functional computer lab for students to benefit from. Currently, 18 computers with internet facility are being used by teachers to train students in the subject.
